Nanshan Aluminium: Rebirth from Scrap Aluminium, Energy Saving and Emission Reduction Promote Development

On November 19,Yantai Radio and Television's Yantai News reported on Nanshan Aluminium's use of advanced technologies to achieve the recycling and reuse of scrap aluminium.The segment highlighted the company’s High-Quality Recycled Aluminium Conservation and Comprehensive Utilization Project,analyzing how Nanshan Aluminium emphasizes green development and process upgrades,playing a vital role in energy saving and emission reduction.

The main raw materials for the High-Quality Recycled Aluminium Conservation and Comprehensive Utilization Project are processing waste from canning and cap-making factories,as well as social recycling of used aluminium cans.These materials go through crushing,grinding,magnetic separation,centrifugal separation,and paint removal before being fed into a double-chamber furnace.The result is high-quality aluminium liquid,which is then transported to the casting workshop.There,it undergoes casting,rolling,and other processes to produce aluminium coils for making new aluminium cans.

Zhou Shujun,Deputy General Manager of Plate and Strip Division of Nanshan Aluminium,stated that the company processes 150,000 tons of scrap aluminium each year,producing recycled aluminium.The carbon emissions for each ton of recycled aluminium are only 0.58 tons,while the energy consumption for producing recycled aluminium is 4.86%of that required for primary aluminium production.The greenhouse gas emissions are just 1/24 of those from primary aluminium production.

The High-Quality Recycled Aluminium Conservation and Comprehensive Utilization Project leverages Nanshan Aluminium’s market and production advantages,forming business partnerships with core customers for the recycling and reuse of scrap aluminium.With the company’s complete industrial chain advantages and advanced energy-saving and eco-friendly technologies,the project promotes circular economy development through the recycling and reuse of scrap aluminium,achieving energy-saving,emission reduction,and clean production across the entire aluminium industry chain.This project plays a leading role in demonstrating green and sustainable development in the industry and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 1.4 million tons annually.

Zhou Shujun also highlighted that under the national"dual-carbon"targets,the recycling of scrap aluminium is becoming a new direction for the green development of the Longkou aluminium industry.The successful commissioning of Nanshan's High-Quality Recycled Aluminium Conservation and Comprehensive Utilization Project will replace part of the electrolysis aluminium liquid,and with the energy-saving and emission-reduction advantages of recycled aluminium,it effectively promotes carbon neutrality in the aluminium industry chain.
